Before your home solar survey
A little preparation makes the first conversation more useful. Start with how your household uses electricity, then look at the space available on your roof.
Bring recent electricity bills and a list of the appliances that matter most.
Bring the whole picture
A single bill is only a snapshot. Bring several recent bills so the team can discuss changes in your household use across the year. Note any planned additions such as an air conditioner, water pump or electric vehicle.
Tell the survey team when the home is usually occupied. Daytime consumption and evening demand can lead to different design choices.
Look at the roof together
The survey should consider usable roof space, access, obstructions and shading. Water tanks, neighbouring buildings and space needed for maintenance all influence a layout.
Roof condition and the proposed mounting arrangement need assessment before installation. Do not climb onto the roof to collect information yourself.
Define what you want to achieve
Write down whether your priority is using solar during the day, supporting essential loads during outages, or both. These are related but different design jobs.
A useful proposal should describe the selected equipment, scope, assumptions and exclusions clearly enough for you to compare it with your needs.
